Much of the Baltic Sea and Baltic States are not contemporary destinations. This is precisely what makes a cruise trip to northern Europe so special. No doubt you have searched the internet for pictures of Estonia, Sweden and Denmark, but admiring it with your own eyes is even better. What can you expect from the city of Tallinn? First of all, this is considered the most beautiful city in the Baltic States. Feast your eyes as you stroll through the centuries-old city center. There are magnificent buildings and medieval architecture everywhere you look. Riga is the capital of Latvia and, in addition to its old streets, has an aura of the present day. This mix makes for an impressive appearance. Be sure to visit the Freedom Monument when you dock here. Passing through Visby? Then cast a line and wait patiently until you hook a fish. That's different from asking someone out at the local bar.

Scandinavian capitals

Want to go on a cruise to the Baltic Sea and Baltic States? Then there are routes that also pass by Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki. All three are worthwhile! In Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, stroll along the main street Nyhavn. This port with colored houses is very distinctive. And don’t skip the beautiful palaces, the statue of the Little Mermaid and Tivoli Park. Stockholm is a unique city because of its location across 14 islands. More than 50 bridges get you to every hot spot in no time! Hop on your bike  and admire the combination of museums, nature and impressive buildings. A visit to Helsinki, the capital of Finland, completes the cruise vacation. The spacious Botanical Gardens, the cozy Market Square and the Palace are worth a visit.

Are you as excited about these destinations as we are? Then it's important to know when to plan this vacation! The cruise ships of the German shipping company AIDA Cruises, the family-oriented ships of Norwegian Cruise Line or the Italian-tinged ships of MSC Cruises sail the itineraries along this destination from about April through October. In these months, you have a better chance of nice weather. But nothing is as unpredictable as the weather, so check carefully in advance whether you need to pack a thicker coat in your suitcase.
