American shipping company versus Dutch roots

You stand on deck with a bitterbal in one hand and a New York Pizza  in the other. What do these have to do with each other? Actually quite a lot! Holland America Line has a rich Dutch history. The first voyage with the ship 'de Rotterdam' sailed from Rotterdam to New York in 1872. These days, Holland America Line is part of a major US cooperative, Carnival Cooperations, and sails to the spectacular Northern Europe where you look out over the unprecedented Norwegian Fjords, the tropical destinations in the Caribbean , the historic cities of the Mediterranean and the destination that is on everyone's bucket list: Alaska. Due to American influences, the language of communication on board at HAL is English and the US Dollar is used as currency. But the Dutch roots can still be seen in the Dutch daily programs, some snacks and drinks.

Ships and cabins of Holland America Line

A part of the fleet is named after Dutch cities, including MS Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Zaandam and Volendam. Holland America Line's fleet is elegant, stylish and spacious. The ships are mid-sized with about one crew member for every two passengers. Cruise activities and entertainment

Both on board and off board, Holland America Line organizes various activities and entertainment. So you won't get bored easily. On board are various cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, live performances by musicians and theater shows. Relax at the Greenhouse Spa & Salon, book a massage or work off those extra pounds. The cruise line also organizes various land tours and excursions during the cruise.
